2024 Brunswick Meadows Community Budget

As the Year 2023 wraps up for Brunswick Meadows, we were very successful in several areas:

  1. We chose to not renew the annual security contract with the Constables office as it was very one-sided and not in our favor, and its cost was well over $87,000.
  2. We upgraded the holiday decorations for the community primary entrance and hope that everyone has had a chance to enjoy them.  They will continue for another three years.
  3. This past summer, the newly created Committee for Improvements to the Community, CIC, was able to meet and send to the Board of Directors a list of priorities.
    1. They said we should first focus on upgrades to all four of the Children’s playgrounds, see the news article here.  That project is slated to begin by March of 2024.
    2. Both the CIC and a member of our community who is also on the MUD89 Board of Directors, Mr. TJ Charles, have been working with Harris County to get sidewalk repairs coordinated where possible, and quite a few were fixed in 2023.  There is much work yet to be done in 2024.  Mr. Charles has recommended that we all download the “Harris Helps” app from our app stores.  You can use it to create a ticket with the county to review and possibly repair more sidewalks in the community.  It also allows you to upload supporting images.
    3. We will also be looking into sidewalk repairs in the main park and perhaps some nighttime lighting for the children’s playgrounds.
  4. While we budgeted for the costs of the new playgrounds for 2024, there will likely be a surplus in 2023 that will be used to help offset the costs.  The approved contract for the new children’s parks came in at $259,188.40.  This includes all new swings and playsets, new mulch, some new benches, and even some new picnic tables.  We hope to have a Grand Opening Celebration in the spring when they are completed.
  5. We have set aside a tidy budget for community events, some could be small social events each month.  Others will be larger ones like Easter Egg Hunt, Fourth of July, Back to School, National Night Out, and for the holidays- Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve.  Stay tuned and watch for notices under the Events menu.

The Board of Directors passed a community-oriented budget in October 2023.  Despite increased community events, we were able to lower the annual assessment to $393.56.
